The Jacobs School of Music Summer String Academy 2010
for Violinists, Violists, and Cellists
June 19 - July 17, 2010
The Jacobs School of Music Summer String Academy is gearing up for its twenty-sixth year. The String Academy offers serious young string players an intensive and varied program under the direction of an outstanding faculty at one of the world's most renowned schools of music. Stay connected as we unveil plans for the 2010 summer.

A Message from the Director:

Welcome to the 2010 Jacobs School of Music String Academy website!
We are looking forward to this coming summer...the 26th year. We have a wonderful faculty in place with teachers that have dedicated their lives to working with young people. The IU 2010 Summer Festival will feature string quartets, piano trios and the outstanding members of the Jacobs School of Music faculty. In addition, the weeks will be filled
with practicing, master classes, performances, chamber music and the
chamber orchestra.
All students participate in two private lessons weekly, chamber
music, master classes, and performances. Younger students will play
in the chamber orchestra which has planned an exciting program of
music.
The String Academy requires that students practice 4 1/2 hours a
day. At first this seems like quite a few hours, but most students
discover after a few days that these hours are not adequate to cover
the materials given to them by their teachers. With all students
practicing, four and a half hours go by very quickly. It is inspiring to monitor the progress that can be made during the String Academy, and it is an ideal time to assess one's skills and to work on reaching the next
level.
It all adds up to a month in which students are immersed in an
intense musical environment, and in a community which fosters close
friendships with young people from around the world.
