The IU Jacobs School of Music-affiliated Artists of the Month, announced in WFIU’s “Directions in Sound” program guide, are also featured in “Fanfare,” with a convenient link so you may listen online. This month, Jeff Nelsen is in the spotlight.
WFIU's Artist of the Month for June is horn teacher, performer, and coach Jeff Nelsen.
Jeff Nelsen joined the faculty of the IU Jacobs School of Music last year. Before coming to Indiana, he was a member of the internationally acclaimed quintet Canadian Brass. He has performed as a soloist and in orchestras around the world and, this summer, he's playing for the Broadway show "Pirate Queen."
Nelsen has taught horn privately and on the faculties of several universities, including University of Toronto and McGill University in Montreal. He also coaches students on overcoming performance anxiety using his system of "Fearless Auditioning." He has written articles and presented seminars on the subject of "being fearless" and has a book forthcoming this year.
During the month of June, you can hear recordings of Jeff Nelsen with the Canadian Brass, including his award winning CD "Magic Horn." WFIU will present an interview with Nelsen on the Sunday, June 17, edition of Profiles at 7 p.m.
