REMEMBERING FIVE FRIENDS

Remembering 5 FriendsToday marks an important moment for the IU Jacobs School of Music as we pause to remember, with love and appreciation, students Chris Carducci, Garth Eppley, Georgina Joshi, Zachary Novak, and Robert Samels, who perished in a plane crash one year ago today. As part of this special time of remembrance, the Jacobs School of Music continues to extend its deepest condolences to their families and heartfelt thanks to all those who have reached out to so many during this difficult time. BELL WINS FISHER PRIZE IN JACOBS SWEEP

Josh BellThe Indiana University Jacobs School of Music has an illustrious history of educating winners of the annual Avery Fisher Artist Awards. This year, that history was further illuminated when IU alumnus Joshua Bell was awarded the Avery Fisher Prize in an April 10 ceremony at Lincoln Center. The prize, a $75,000 accolade presented for lifetime achievement, firmly establishes his reputation as the most revered U.S. violinist of his generation. CARBALLO WINS KINSLEY AWARD

Erick CarballoIU Jacobs School of Music graduate Erick Carballo has received the 2006-2007 Esther L. Kinsley Ph.D. Dissertation Award, the highest honor for a research document that Indiana University bestows upon a student each year. The award, a single prize considered across all academic fields, marks the first time that a student at the Jacobs School of Music has won the accolade. Click here for more >>

Mary GoetzeSpring Semester is winding down, so hurry while you still have a chance! Catch the New Music Ensemble tonight and help celebrate the illustrious career of Mary Goetze in her farewell performance with the International Vocal Ensemble tomorrow. Saturday also features the IU Children’s Choir Spring Concert, a Computer Music and Video recital, the Opera Workshop Extravaganza (also on Sunday), and the Big Band Extravaganza! Enjoy Pro Arte & Baroque Orchestra, as well as the University Orchestra, on Sunday, with the All-Campus Orchestra on Monday, before the Kuttner Quartet takes the stage on Wednesday.
