DAVID BAKER'S ‘CONCERTINO FOR CELLULAR PHONES AND ORCHESTRA’

David BakerDistinguished Professor David N. Baker’s new composition, Concertino for Cellular Phones and Orchestra, will incorporate audience members' cell phones in order to create a shared participatory performance experience. It is scheduled to kick off the 20th anniversary season of the Chicago Sinfonietta on October 1 and 2 under the direction of Maestro Paul Freeman. Click for more >>

IU BALLET THEATER FEATURES AN INTERNATIONAL EVENING OF DANCE

Janos Starker Indiana University Ballet Theater begins a new era October 6 and 7 as it opens its 2006-07 season with the Fall Ballet “From Balanchine to Baker: An International Evening of Dance” at the Musical Arts Center, with special guests Julie Kent (American Ballet Theatre), and Damian Woetzel (New York City Ballet). Choreography by George Balanchine, Jerome Robbins Jacques Cesbron, Michael Vernon, and and Guoping Wang. The program will mark Michael Vernon’s official debut as the newly appointed chair of the IU Jacobs School of Music’s Ballet Department. Click for more >>

HURRICANE KATRINA ANNIVERSARY BENEFIT CONCERT PLANNED

Katrina ConcertA star-studded benefit concert in support of the Greater New Orleans Youth Orchestra, the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Habitat for Humanity Musicians' Village will be performed on Sunday, October 15, 2006, in Auer Hall. Click for more about this special concert >>

Stanislaw Skrowaczeski IU Ballet Theater opens its season this weekend with From Balanchine to Baker: An International Evening of Dance. Be sure to see the Biava Quartet on Wednesday, October 11, as they perform works by Haydn, Stacy Garrop, and Debussy. A series of concerts this Sunday (October 8) offers a choice of Nigel North (lute), the Eva Janzer Memorial Concert, and the Symphony Orchestra conducted by Mark Gibson, all at 4pm! The University Singers, directed by Jan Harrington, offers motets by J.S. Bach at 8pm. This is but a taste of the rich fall harvest this year at Jacobs! Click for more >>
