Indiana University String Academy Virtuosi will play Carnegie Hall

Twenty-one members of the String Academy Virtuosi -- a gifted group of violinists, violists and cellists between the ages of 12 and 18 who study in the Pre-College String Academy at the Jacobs School of Music -- will travel to New York to perform in Carnegie Hall's Zankel Hall at 7:30 p.m. March 11, 2013.
Catch their Carnegie Hall Preview Concert on March 9 at 2 pm in Auer Hall, with solo violinist Gilles Apap!
IU Jacobs School of Music appoints jazz vocalist Ly Wilder to faculty

The Indiana University Jacobs School of Music is pleased to announce the appointment of jazz vocalist and vocal jazz ensemble director Ly Wilder as adjunct lecturer in jazz voice, completing a faculty lineup that will introduce vocal jazz as a major study area in the school. Ly will serve as a faculty member of the Steve Zegree Vocal Jazz Camp in the summer of 2013.

Winners of 2012 Indiana International Guitar Festival and Competition announced

Romanian guitarist Silviu Ciulei is the winner of the Open Division of the third annual Indiana International Guitar Festival and Competition, hosted by the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. The Competition featured Senior Youth and Junior Youth performers from all over the world, as well as an open division, allowing guitarists up to age 35 to compete.
Jacobs School Pre-College Programs celebrate 25th anniversary with 'Swan Lake' performance

On Saturday, April 28, the IU Jacobs School of Music Pre-College Ballet Program celebrated its 25th anniversary with a set of collaborative performances with students in the IU String Academy, IU Pre-College Young Harpists, IU Young Pianists Program and the Fairview Elementary Violin Project. A workshop performance of Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky's ballet "Swan Lake" highlighted the anniversary, led by long-time participants of the Pre-college Ballet program and one graduate of the Jacobs School Ballet program.
European Union Youth Orchestra communicates through music at IU Auditorium

The European Union Youth Orchestra, an ensemble of Europe's finest young musicians, will give its Bloomington debut concert at IU Auditorium at 7 p.m. Sunday, April 22. Founded in 1976, the 116-member orchestra is the only cultural project to include musicians from all 27 European Union member countries, a symbol of European harmony and future hope.

One of Bloomington’s most popular holiday traditions returned on December 2-4, 2011,when the Indiana University Ballet Theater presented its 53rd annual production of The Nutcracker. The show featured students from the Pre-College Ballet program performing the role of the young heroine, Clara.
