We proudly announce the 2018 Edward Auer Summer Workshop, to take place at the Jacobs School of Music in July. It is our honor to have once again the distinguished pianist Jerome Lowenthal, plus Julian Martin, Peter Bithell and many other eminent pianists.

SPECIAL PROJECT:

Participants will have the extraordinary opportunity of hearing a Series of Debussy Concerts to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the death of Claude Debussy.

AUER Workshop: Then and Now

The Edward AUER Workshop began as a Chopin Class more than 20 years ago with a single teacher. Now there will be almost 10 internationally active musicians joining the AUER workshop to guide and inspire our participants. Since 2015, the AUER workshop has offered ONLINE participation and auditing. We welcome anybody who is interested from all over the world!

Solo Competition First place winner(s) will be invited to the 2019 AUER Workshop to perform a solo recital. This summer 2017 junior winner Seok-Hyun Seo and senior winners Benjamin Gittens, James Palmer, Curtis Pavey and Joseph Vaz will come to Bloomington to perform.

Concerto Competition:

The 2018 Edward AUER Summer Piano Workshop will present TWO Piano Concertos with two winners from the concerto competition. JSoM conducting professor Arthur Fagen will conduct this concert.

Concerto Competition Repertoire Choices: You may enter only one category

Category 1: Any Mozart concerto

Category 2: All Beethoven concertos, both Chopin concertos, both Mendelssohn concertos, Schumann concerto

Those wishing to compete must send a recording for pre-screening, along with their application, by April 30, 2018.

Audition for the Jacobs School of Music in June and save a trip during the year! (except for DM and AD programs)

Master Classes and Individual Lessons

Study with internationally active pianists and learn from talented peers! There will be more than 8 master classes and a total of more than 160 individual lessons.

Concerts and Valuable Friendships

Numerous master classes by Workshop faculty members and guest solo and chamber artists. Get to know these artists closely and mingle with other participants at the master classes, concerts, and parties!
