The Latin American Music Center offers a selection of courses suitable for the completion of the Outside Area (6 credits) or an Individualized Minor (12 credits) in Latin American Music for a masters degree,  or an Individualized Minor (12 credits)  in Latin American Music for a doctoral degree.

If you are interested in pursuing an  Outside Area or Individualized Minor in Latin American Music, please write to the Center at lamc@indiana.edu.

The Center sponsors the courses listed below. Check the Schedule of Classes for courses offered in a specific semester.  

Besides the formal courses, a student can register for Independent Study for 3 credits under the supervision of the Center's faculty director. A visit to the Music Graduate Studies Office will be required to obtain the proper procedures and forms.


MUS  M413 - Latin American and Latino Popular Music and Culture

Latin American and Latino popular music genres, their historical and cultural contexts, and their impact in the United States. For music majors only. Activities outside class may be scheduled.

MUS  M513 - Latin American and Latino Popular Music and Culture

Latin American and Latino popular music genres, their historical and cultural contexts, and their impact in the United States. Open to majors and non-majors. Activities outside class may be scheduled, and a final project is required.

MUS  M690 - Seminar in Latin American Music

P: Consent of instructor. Advanced work in the study of Latin American music. Formal research paper required. May be repeated.

MUS  X414 - Latin American Ensemble

Emphasis on musical practice, arranging, and performance of Latin American popular music genres for solo, chamber, and band ensembles. Open to music majors and non-majors with performing skills. Audition required. Does not fulfill the major ensemble requirement for music majors.
