Print Style Guide

Fonts

The Jacobs School has chosen fonts that are versatile. We’ve also endeavored to select a set that is widely available in different operating systems and software programs.

The following typefaces are suggested for use in Jacobs School of Music print publications. These can be used for titles, headlines, sub-heads, and body copy.

Other typefaces may be used for titles, headlines, and sub-heads when the content of the publication warrants a more unique font.

Please contact the Jacobs School Office of Marketing and Publicity with any questions about font usage or for assistance in choosing additional fonts.

Sans-serif

Myriad Pro

When selecting a sans-serif font family, use Myriad Pro.

This font family is included with Adobe Creative Suite (Mac & PC) and is available to those working on Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator files.

Myriad Pro

Franklin Gothic

Franklin Gothic is the alternate sans-serif font to be used on Jacobs School
publications when Myriad Pro is not available.

This font family is included with Microsoft Office 2007 (Mac & PC) and should be widely available to those working on Word, Publisher, Excel, etc. files. If you are working on an Office file and you have Myriad Pro on your system, use Myriad Pro.

If you do not have Office 2007, it is available for free to download (for students and staff of Indiana University) at iuware.iu.edu

Franklin Gothic

Serif

Garamond, Adobe Pro

Garamond is the primary serif font family to be used on Jacobs School publications.

The Adobe Pro version is the prefered iteration of this font. This font is included with Adobe CS3 (Mac & PC) and should be widely available to those working on Photoshop, InDesign, etc. files. If you do not have access to the Adobe Pro version of Garamond, then the standard open typeface version of Garamond is acceptable and is available with Office 2007 (Mac & PC).

Garamond

Bodoni MT

Bodoni is the supplementary serif font family to be used on Jacobs School publications. Its primary use is for setting the Living Music tagline, some sub-heads, and other graphic flourishes. All other use of Bodoni should be limited.

Bodoni MT is included with Office 2007 (Mac & PC).
