Meeting Times: Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 2:30-3:50
The Symphonic Choir is the foundational choir for Freshman and Sophmore School of Music singers. The ensemble also serves as the performing group for Masters Choral Conducting Students and performs a variety of works from early music, large Romantic choral-orchestral works, as well as new music. Each spring the ensemble forms the core of the Oratorio Chorus that performs major choral literature with one of the Indiana University orchestras in the Musical Arts Center under the direction of IU Faculty or a guest conductor. Recent performances include Britten's War Requiem, Mendelssohn's Elijah, and Brahms's Ein Deutsches Requiem. Students in the Symphonic Choir will work on basic musicianship skills such as sight-singing, vocal production, and aural skills. Students often graduate to the Universtiy Chorale, Opera Chorus, or University Singers.
