The hallmark of the Department of Piano at Indiana University has always been a distinguished and diversified faculty.
The 13 members of the department come from all over the world and offer many different philosophies and schools of piano playing in a friendly, supportive atmosphere. Each student, from undergraduate to master's to doctoral to artist diploma, receives personal attention with a minimum one-hour individual lesson weekly and participation in a weekly studio class. The department is committed to nurturing each student, helping the student to grow and learn in a healthy atmosphere. In addition to lessons and master classes, the department offers chamber music coaching, and there are three concerto competitions a year. Talented high school students have an opportunity to study with faculty through the Open Program. Graduates with degrees in piano are enjoying a variety of careers in music, including performance and teaching positions.
