$1000 commission to be awarded to a Jacobs School of Music student majoring in composition for a work for solo voice and instrumental ensemble to be performed by the IU New Music Ensemble.

Students wishing to be considered for the award will enter a work for voice and instruments in Category B of the composition department's Dean's Prize competition. The composition department faculty will choose 2 works from Category B as commission prize winners; one of these commissions will be the Georgina Joshi Commission for a work for solo voice and instruments, awarded to the composer of the work for voice and instruments ranked highest as judged by the composition department faculty.

During the summer following the award, the director of the New Music Ensemble will meet with the commissioned composer to determine the length and instrumentation of the new work.

DEADLINE:
Entries should be left for Professor Dzubay at the School of Music mailroom no later than 12:00 noon, on the Monday following Spring Break.

ELIGIBILITY:
Enrollment as a composition major during fall and/or the following spring semester for each spring deadline. Additionally, the winning student must be returning to IU the following year or graduating from the DM program.
