The hallmark of the Department of Piano at Indiana University has always been a distinguished and diversified faculty. The 13 members of the
department come from all over the world and offer many different philosophies and schools of piano playing in a friendly, supportive atmosphere.
Each student, from undergraduate to master's to doctoral to artist diploma, receives personal attention with a minimum one-hour individual lesson
weekly and participation in a weekly studio class. The department is committed to nurturing each student, helping the student to grow and learn
in a healthy atmosphere. In addition to lessons and master classes, the department offers chamber music coaching, and there are three concerto
competitions a year. Talented high school students have an opportunity to study with faculty through the Open Program. Graduates with degrees in
piano are enjoying a variety of careers in music, including performance and teaching positions.

Opportunities to Perform
Students perform recitals throughout their studies in the School of Music. Many also play in competitions and chamber ensembles. Piano students
often agree to accompany other instrumentalists and vocalists in recitals and other performances.
